Happy tears as well as sad tears, this little whale is here to dry them all!

 

This PDF crochet pattern (US terminology) will guide you to crochet the most lovely whale tissue box cover as shown in pictures, made using soft acrylic yarn (DK / 8 ply) and crochet hook E (3.5 mm).

 

The whale can also be made using wool or cotton yarn, as long as it’s suitable for crochet hook E (3.5 mm). The whale in the pictures was made using Stylecraft Special DK.

Finished size will be approx. 9.8” x 4,3” x 5” (25 x 11 x 12.50 cm) (l x w x h).
There are 2 openings; 1 at the bottom to insert a box of tissues, and 1 at the top to pull the tissues out. All parts in this pattern will be worked in continuous rounds.

 

Skill Level: Advanced beginner.

 

Approx. Gauge: Before you start, you may need to check your gauge. This is important for fitting the cover over the tissue box. 5 sc = 1” (2.5 cm)

 

Materials used:

- Crochet hook size E (3.5 mm)

- Yarn; light blue (approx. 75 gram, 241 yds, 220 m), small amounts of black, white, bright blue and beige

- Square tissue box (for example Kleenex, size: 4.33” x 3.94” x 4.72” (11 x 10 x 12 cm) (l x w x h)

- Fiberfill stuffing, optional: black and beige sewing thread

- Stitch markers, tapestry needle, pins, scissors, optional: sequins

 

Stitches used: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, working through back of loops, increasing, decreasing, magic circle
